question 1

Question 1- In what ways does your media product USE, DEVELOP or CHALLENGE forms and conventions of real media products?

Our film Ninja Child was solely based on the theme of challenge, bravery and courage the main genre for our film was a children’s adventure. The opening sequence pays close attention to the life of a child, who aspires to merge his fantasy world with reality, the film has a lot of shots were the ninja child is by himself projecting him as sort of the loser of his school that no one wants be around relating from his peers, looked down by his teachers and pushed away by his parents.

After researching our specific genre, found that we wanted to outline and project themes of Bravery, Challenge, Friendship, Self belief, Courage, Obsession. We wanted to show a variety of different themes that would unify the essence of the film and our character we felt that by doing this we would be able to create a great level of imagination and creativity capturing the interest of our audience through the magic of our storyline, mise en scene, camera and most great level of attention to detail
Our character was the main important aspect of our film therefore we presented him in our first scene we felt that this will enable our audience to capture his essence and understand him more so as a boy on a mission. Our character was shown to be a boy on a mission to collide his fantasy’s with the real world we thought a good example of this was the main character from kick ass as he wanted desperately to be seen as more than what he was by his peers we wanted our opening sequence to vie the courageous dominant side of our character thus implementing his dominant walk towards the tree and low angle shot tilted up to show him to be overpowering.

Our narrative for our story was a boy who was bullied at home and misunderstood at school we wanted to give a sense of sadness and to show how unwanted and unloved this kid was by everyone around him yet he still managed to find peace and tranquil in his heart enough to persevere through all the bullying he encountered at school and the lack on attention he received at home to this world were everything was at one and he found comfort in his thoughts. We received various help from anime such as naruto who was an unloved youth with no one around him. He lacked people that cared for him and anyone that loved him he had no one to call his own whether in relation to family or friends but yet managed to persevere to become a great ninja through sheer determination and will. We also found that the New ‘karate kid’ had a interesting and very relatable storyline where Jayden was being bullied but had a challenge of becoming a great fighter by defeating his bully in the final battle to later gain his respect through defeat. Another example was a news article that we saw about a ninja challenging a business man to a fight this was where we got the business man character from as he was an intriguing character and a typical factor in everyday life.
We wanted our sound to be upbeat and optimistic but have a sense of not everything is as it seems, we used a song of children singing a recognizable nursery tune frère Jacque this was modernised and with a drum beat and other various instruments but edited into the positioning of our choice we felt that good music alongside the film will start our story very proudly capturing the attention of the audience from the start we wanted to use music to keep our audience intrigued thus the reasoning for our choice in music we also wanted to use music that would allow our to be unique but very much something adequate for our viewers. We got the idea of the Chinese nursery song theme from both ‘Naruto’ and ‘TMNT’ these two because the theme tunes are both different with a vintage edge yet maintain a large amount of modern qualities such as a drum and electric guitar instruments.

The body language that we wanted Ryan to show was to be dominant with every action proud with every footstep and passionate with every movement we showed his dominance through the low angled shot looking up at Ryan we showed him to be proud by walking towards tree with the lens flare as a good effect and we showed his passion in various ways one of the panning shot to his eyes two by his body positioning of the low angle shot and stance when faced by the business man. We used a lot of masculine and dominant colours .This was shown in the cutaway shots to the credits were background colours were all illumines and dull. We went for dull colours that could be seen for a neutral perspective in relation to boys and girls but thought that our storyline is more relatable to the primary audience of males so decided to change it to black and red which are commonly associated with ninjas. we didn’t use make up we felt that the use of makeup would out shadow his masculinity and confuse to film watchers as makeup is normally associated with feminine aspects and would not show him to what we originally planned but make up with a strong dominant colour would have given more of a feel to our colour but would have drawn him away from the childish side. Costume was an important factor in our work this is because created the image of the ninja child it brought him to life with the ninja mask, the woman’s belt to hold his two plastic swords and the self made sign with printing paper. we see the costume as our unique selling point it showed the originality and immaturity of our character.
