Prelim task evaluation

1) Who did you work with and how did you manage the tasks between you? Explain how you organized your time and schedules. What issues came up with time management? What problems did you come up against? How did you deal with these? What were your strengths and weaknesses in this area? What would you do differently next time?

My partner in crime for this task was Karis Edwards between us she was devised to make and design the script and cast, to keep on top of things we had arranged our script and cast before any further development was made before filming was started or even close to starting. When looking at issues with time management for the development of the prelim task we wanted everything to be as incisive and precise before anything in relation to camera or filming was ready so did not face much problems as a duo but I encountered difficulty that slowed down task development with my bad drawings of the shots we wanted to film. The issue that I personally found difficult was the drawing for the camera shots as I continuously drew things that were not in sync with what we were trying to portray, to deal with this problem I decided to start again as I had made too many mistakes in the previous sketch and wanted everything on my side to be perfect. In this task I personally see our planning and decision making as to what we wanted to do and how we wanted to do it to be very good as we conducted and designed shots well as a duo, we didn’t face much problems with the development other than the ineffective designing of the first storyboard. If i were to do anything differently next time I would like to come up with more scenes and find a better environment to show our scene.

2) How did you plan your sequence? What process did you use?
When Planning our sequence we first watched a number of prelim tasks for previous years of media to see what we could factor from their work into ours and we also looked to see how the mistakes made by them could be avoided, i personally also went and did some personal research prelims task done by people via YouTube it came of great use as it gave an understanding and allowed a variety of genres which somewhere done very well in my opinion. But when planning the sequence we brainstormed very thoroughly and detailed looking into what we could bring from our task.

3) What technology did you use to complete the task, and how did you use it? What did you learn about using the cameras? Here you can also refer to the discussions we have had in class recently about digital cameras.
In this task the technology used was a Canon XH A1S – Camcorder, a
Konig Heavy Duty Professional Video Camera Tripod with Pro Fluid Head and a Clapper board all these were essential tools for the making of our prelim task.

4) 4) what factors did you have to take into account when planning, shooting and editing?

The factors taken into account mostly was fluency and consistency we wanted our piece to look as secretive and mysterious as possible yet capturing the eagerness and desperation of the story, we planned it to cause a serious tension in each shot making the story to seem un-easy until the final few moments when the secrecy is uncovered.
When shooting we were always time consciously but that proved effective to only some extent as we made a mistake on our shot count for filming meaning that editing everything into order would have to be vital as to portray everything to make sense to our viewers.
When editing we wanted to cut out all the irrelevant sounds and make everything as accurate as can be we looked into how we could shorten each shot making it less tedious taking a variety of shots to allow the ability to make a change up in shot to give every viewpoint possible in the limited and conserved time we had.

5) How successful was your sequence? Please identify what worked well, and with hindsight, what would you improve/do differently?
The sequence we created I found it to be very successful i found it to show exactly what we wanted the shots to project I found that our timing and our shot consistency and angles included in each view allowed a fluent and concise piece of work to be produced.
If i could change anything I would change the environment in which we did shooting to a darker and alley way type atmosphere, I would change the actors to people who fit the image more and are more shaky, cautious and paranoid. In certain moments such as mistakes to do with drawing each shot messed up my time management and put me behind on each task up till shooting

6) What have you learnt from completing the task? Discuss time management skills, group work skills, organizational skills and technical skills of production.
i learnt that to make a good film of something there must be a lot of preparation a lot of detail has to go into it to make sure everything is perfect, you have to think outside the box and often look at everything from a creative point of view or from a perspective looking to better your work in any way shape or form you have to be incisive with each persons time keeping. One of the most important things if not forgetting that doing things must be done as a team, nothing can be left out from one another so that one person is behind the other you have to look out for each others mistakes and opt ways in which to help improve each set task whether filming, editing or planning technicalities to rock should be left unfurnished if you want to obtain the best possible grades.

Post production - What did you learn about the editing process? How did you make decisions while editing? How did you plan your time to complete the editing task? What were your strengths and weaknesses in this area? What would you do differently next time?
i learnt that through editing you can add a lot of realism to your work you can make it better and more realistic and better suited to what you originally pictured i also learnt that editing is not easy it is long and requires patience and optimal focus in-order to make sure you get everything perfect. When making decisions we looked at how we would like each side of the conversation to be cut making sure that when speaking a person’s face was shown and their reaction and attitude was projected. My strength was being time conscious and wanting to finish the set work at a giving time my flaws in the par was lack of concentration at times and patience as to wanting the task to be finished
